Most schools in Tamil Nadu now follow the SamacheerKalvi syllabus. This is the Tamil Nadu state platform for common school system.

Uniform System of School Education was implemented by Tamil Nadu Uniform System of School Education Act 2010 which paves way for quality education to all children without any discrimination based on their economic, social or cultural background.

The Act was rolled out in a phased programme. For standards I to VI from the academic year 2010-2011 and for other standards from academic year 2011-2012.
