# free online math refresher

Question:I suck at math. A lot-- Are there any good online refresher courses??? Free is a plus, but not an absolute must

Answers:Go to any college bookstore and check out the PLATO online math series. This series has some problems if you are learning higher level math, but it's perfect for a refresher course. You can't get online with it unless you are enrolled in the class, but here's the great part: For only $5-$10 you will get the PLATO book and software. The book is like any math book, with example problems and exercises (answers to the odd problems are in the back). The software will explain, step by step, the procedures in the book. Like I said...you can't get online with it unless you are enrolled but for less than $10, it's a bargain. A normal college math book costs$50 to $70, as I'm sure you know. I was astonished when my book only cost$6. Furthermore, the only reason you would need to use the online portion is if you were taking the tests for college credit. (The tests, by the way, will still be available to you). Good luck.

Question:I'll be returning to college in about six months and I have to take some placement tests. I have serious math anxiety and wonder if anyone knows where I can get some basic refresher courses for algebra, ratios and all the other fun stuff I haven't done in 20 years. Thanks

Answers:There is an online program that I use with my students that may be helpful. Check out www.k12.aleks.com You have to buy a license which is usually $30-$40, but it is well worth the money. They do have a free trial to see if you like it before purchasing. Good luck!

Question:Im 34yrs old and have been out of high school for a while, I was never really good at math, but Im usually a quick learner and I am trying really hard to do good on a placment test for college, I know Im going to have to start at a bottom level algebra or math, but I dont want to start at the very bottom with basic math skills, I know fraction, division etc....just algebra is giving me a problem, does anyone know of any websites, preferably free, that may help be an easy tool for learning algebra again??....or any other ideas or solutions would be a very great help...thank you.

Answers:How do you learn best? Would it help to have someone tutor you one-on-one? Here's a website that looks promising: http://www.algebra.com It is free and there are online tutors to help answer questions. If you want help from someone face-tof-face, check out the local colleges. They usually have mathematics centers with tutors who can help. Or if you have any questions, feel free to ask. :) Good luck with your exam!

Question:so i just did Algebra I last year and now i'm going into geometry. i was looking on the Math questions and there's some on there about slope and everything and i KNOW how to do it, but i forgot how. so that's when i decided that i need to review over what i did last year. and i was just wondering if there's anyone out there that would work with me to refresh these things? i mean, i know i can just look through my past notes [which i will do] but i want to work with somebody also, and none of my family will because they don't understand the material. so...help? Answers:Hiring a private tutor for one-on-one tutoring is the best way to go. However, if money is an issue, you can opt for online tutoring instead. Try some online tutoring services like: 1) http://www.tuitionplaza.com/tutoring/ - tutoring by retired teachers and volunteers (free) 2) http://www.tutor.com - tutoring by professional tutors (not free) 3) ... and many more (use search engine). Think ouside the box and you'll have more options! Good luck!
