Question:Hello. Can someone help me with this math problem?
--Determine an expression for the nth term in each table:
x y
1 -1
2 6
3 13
4 ?
? 55
So what kind of equation would I use given this data?
Answers:the y column is going up by 7 each time this means the first part of the equation is Y=7X however 7 x 1 is 8 more than -1 therefore the equation is Y = 7X-8 this fits with the data -1=7-8 6=14-8 13=21-8 if X is 4 then ((4x7)-8) the Y is 20 if Y is 55 then (55+8/7) the X is 9 Y = 7X-8

Question:I've been stuck on these question and can't figure out the patterns.
1, 4, 9, 16 What's the pattern there. and
1 + 3
1 + 3 + 5
1 + 3 + 5 + 7
predict the sum of the first ten odd numbers for the second one.
Answers:The first one is squares of numbers (a number times itself) 1 x 1 = 1 2 x 2 = 4 3 x 3 = 9 4 x 4 = 16 The same pattern is followed in the second question. 1 + 3 is two numbers. The sum of these first two odd numbers is 4, which is 2 x 2. Next you have the sum of the first three odd numbers, which comes to 9, which is 3 x 3. Then the sum of the first four odd numbers is 16, which is 4 x 4. So the prediction for the sum of the first ten odd numbers would be to multiply however many numbers you have (ten, in this case) by itself. So, 10 x 10 = 100 is the predicted sum. 100.

Question:My 3rd grade son has a Math problem we can't seem to figure out the answer to. (Yes, I know this is sad haha). He has to find the pattern that will get him from 1,073 to 1,104 in eight numbers:
? - 1,073 - ? - ? - ? - ? - ? - ? - ? - ? - 1,104
Help?
Answers:Well, if it's simply a linear pattern involving adding the same number to each previous term to get the next term: 1. Determine the range between the two given values 1,104 - 1,073 = 31 2. Divide that range by the number of terms (8) 31 / 8 = 3.875 3. Finally, add 3.875 to each previous term in the pattern to get the next term 1,073 , 1,076.875 , 1,080.75 , 1,084.625 , 1,088.5 , 1,092.375 , 1,096.25 , 1,100.125 , 1,104
