Question:I have to do an experiment for chemistry where I have to test 13 substances to see whether they are acids, bases, or neutral, and I have to see their color. I need to test 5 acids, 5 bases, and 3 neutrals. For acids, I have tested vinegar, lemon juice, and soda. I need 2 more. For bases I only tested bleach and ammonia, and need 3 more. For neutral, I tested water and alcohol, and I need one more. Can you please help me figure out what other household items are acids, bases and neutrals? I don't know what else to test.

Answers:All Arrhenius acid-base reactions are double replacement. In fact, we say that an Arrhenius acid-base reaction will always produce a salt and water. The salt is the cation of the base and the anion of the acid. The classic example is HCl + NaOH, which makes NaCl and HOH. Another, less common one could be ... HNO3(aq) + Ca(OH)2(s) --> Ca(NO3)2(aq) + 2HOH(l)
