Titan has an anti-greenhouse effect, in that its atmosphere absorbs solarradiation but is relatively transparent to infrared radiation. ...

Greenhouse gas

A greenhouse gas (sometimes abbreviated GHG) is a gas in an atmosphere that absorbs and emits radiation within the thermal infrared range. This process is the fundamental cause of the greenhouse effect. The primary greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere are water vapor, carbon dioxide,

Earth Sciences: The Greenhouse Effect

The first suggestion that burning fossil fuels could warm the Earth's atmosphere was in 1896 by Svante Arrhenius, the famous chemist. Few people believed him. The atmosphere was thought to be so big and so stable that it could not possibly be affected by small fires.

Question:

Answers:Disadvantages; 1. MAY NOT HAVE THE PROPER TYPE OF INSECTS FOR POLLINATION 2. MUST BE WATERED MANUALLY 3. CAN BECOME TOO HOT IN SUMMER IF NOT VENTILATED advantages : 1. CAN GROW FLOWERS AND VEGETABLES IN WINTER 2. PROTECTION AGAINST ANIMALS EATING THE PLANTS 3. CAN START VEGETABLE PLANTS EARLIER IN THE SEASON

Question:

Answers:For all who love plants and flowers, nothing is more exciting, more stimulating, than growing them in a garden under glass. When the north wind whistles and the snowflakes cling, when panes go opaque as temperate climate confronts zero, your greenhouse is a place of utter delight, fun to work in, a joy to contemplate, with a wealth of beauty and fragrance to share. http://www.lovelygreenhouses.com/

Question:heres the question from my book 'explain how air pollution can cause the greenhouse effect and the thinning of the ozone layer. suggest ways that it can be reduced.' i cant find much on google so plz help =) should be like one side of an a4 paper

Answers:The greenhouse effect is caused by an atmosphere containing gases that absorb and emit infrared radiation. Greenhouse gases trap heat within the surface-troposphere system, causing heating at the surface of the planet or moon. This process is the fundamental cause of the greenhouse effect. The main greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere are water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone. Carbon dioxide readily retains heat. With more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, more heat is kept in the Earth, and a warming trend begins. If the Earth's temperature just rises a few degrees, the polar ice caps could melt, causing flooding of coastal cities, many of which are currently major economic and political centers of the world. Most form of pollution produces carbon dioxide and thus causes green house effect Ozone depletion mechanisms strengthened as emissions of CFCs and halogens increased. CFC( chloro fluro carbon) produced by Ac and refrigerators is the foremost reason for ozone layer depletion. The main source of these halogen atoms in the stratosphere is photodissociation of chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) compounds, commonly called freons, and of bromofluorocarbon compounds known as halons. These compounds are transported into the stratosphere after being emitted at the surface.

A Climate Minute - The Greenhouse Effect :The 'Greenhouse Effect' discovered in 1824 by Joseph Fourier is what keeps the earth from being a frozen ball in space. Without greenhouse gases (GHG's) the temperature of earth would be below freezing and incapable of supporting life as we know it. It is precisely because GHG's other than water are such a tiny fraction of the atmosphere that adding a little more can have a large effect on the climate system of earth.
