Question:The definition of dilation in geometry is : Dilation is a similarity transformation in which a figure is enlarged or reduced using a scale factor 0, without altering the center. When you want to dilate a coordinate, you take the cooardinate and multiply by the scale factor. However, what if you do want to change the altering center? How do you perform dilation then? i am referring to this website: http://www.icoachmath.com/sitemap/dilation.html

Answers:You'll need to do a coordinate system transformation such that the center changes from (x,y,z) to (x',y',z').

Question:Four points on a graph (rectangle) P=6,3 D=2,3 B=6,9 C=2,9 I need to dilate the figure by the given scale factor of 0.5 with "P" as the center of dilation. How do you do that? I keep multiplying those coordiates by 0.5 and I don't get a rectangle. Help!

Answers:First Draw it out. The rectangle is a 4 x 6 rectangle. Now using P as the point of dilation. Multiply the side lengths by 0.5, not the coordinate points. This makes the rectangle now 2 x 3. Shift Points D and C to the right (x-plane) by 2, and shift C and B down (y-plane) by 3. Therefore: P: (6,3) - stays the same D: (2,3) > (4,3) C: (2,9) > (4,6) B: (6,9) > (6,6)

Question:Can you help me with some definitions? These are the choices: A The derivative of a function f at a B The tangent line to the curve at the point P C The slope of the graph at a point P D Differentiation E Secant line F [f(b)-f(a)]/(b-a) G y-f(x1)=f (superscript -1) (x1)(x-x1) Here are the questions: 1)The slope of the tangent line at P, if it exists 2)Slope of secant line over [a,b], (or Average rate of change of f on this interval) 3)The tangent line to the graph of y=f(x) at the point (x1,f(x1))

Answers:1)The slope of the tangent line at P, if it exists = C The slope of the graph at a point P 2)Slope of secant line over [a,b], (or Average rate of change of f on this interval) =F [f(b)-f(a)]/(b-a) 3)The tangent line to the graph of y=f(x) at the point (x1,f(x1) =G y-f(x1)=f (superscript -1) (x1)(x-x1)

Question:its currently 7:15 and I have tons of homework. I just thought Id quickly ask you guys for these definitons because I cant spend to long searching online because I have to go to bed early cuz I wake up at 3:00 am ( cuz I dont have car to get to school,I bike 8 miles every day to school) Im really sick of getting 4 hours of sleep, can sumone just help out a little? I need these definitons (dont have to answer them all, I dont expect you to waste your time on me) a) Hypothesis - b) Dependent variable - c) Independent variable - d) Control - e) Mass - f) Volume - g) Density - h) Miscible - i) Immiscible - j) Density Column - 2) Measure mass and volume of liquids and solids using the correct units. (Write down how you measure the mass and volume.) 3) Calculate density using the correct units. (Write down the equation for density.) 4) Name at least 10 properties of matter. Im trying to get this done (and study it), plus a resume, 3 math pages, + 2 chaps. of a book

Answers:hypothesis-a possible explaniation or sollution to the problem dependent variable-the variable that is measured in an experiment independent variable-the factor that is changed in an experiement
