Question:I have been researching green energy and I have begun to wonder about this question. Sound is a transfer of energy. Could sound somehow be used to create energy? Its not like we are going to run out of sound.

Answers:Our ears are very sensitive... what we hear as a 'loud' sound doesn't have much energy associated with it. A 500W speaker can be very, very loud. And it won't be 100% efficient at producing sound, it might only be making 400W of sound for example. When you try and harness sound (using a piezoelectric, say), you wouldn't be 100% efficient, you might only harness 300W of those 400W. So you might be able to harness 300W from a really loud sound. Vestas V-90 wind turbines have a maximum power output of 3,000,000W and a nuclear power station has about 1,500,000,000W. Also, I'm not aware of any natural sources of sound energy that would be intense enough. I'm almost certain that sound is a no-go!
