I have also read recently where odor should be on the list. Physical change is a change in size, shape, state or solution. Try to rule these out when looking for a chemical change. Yes bubbles occur when boiling occurs, check temperature to see if you are near the boiling point. Is the solution being warmed if you see gas escaping? Has there been a pressure change? Color change can occur in a piece of copper being heated, it is a way to determine the temperature of the flame. But generally all color changes are chemical. The statement given is correct, but you can generally rely on a simpler one.
