CBSE Versus ICSE Board

Which Education Board is the best for the student  is  a topic that has been debated about for many years. Most of us always feel the other education board is better than the one that we study. This is because we have certain preconceived perceptions about other education boards. Let’s check out some strengths and weaknesses of each board as noticed by me as a student.

CBSE:

Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) is one of the most popular school boards in India. This board has the responsibility of preparing the syllabus for the 9th grade  – 12th grade, secondary level and senior secondary level. The CBSE is also vested with the duty of conducting various examinations on the prescribed curriculum. The boards consist of the national curriculum and also additional subject matter. The examinations conducted by this board are All India Secondary School Examination (AISSE for 10th Grade) and All India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE  for 12th Grade).

ICSE:

It is another examination conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination. This is also known as CISCE.

Let’s check out the dissimilarities:

  1. CBSE approves Hindi and English languages as the medium of instruction whereas ICSE doesn’t approve Hindi.
  2. Large number of schools in India are affiliated to the CBSE Board. It permits the regular CBSE students and the private candidates from non-affiliated schools to appear in their exams. ICSE does not permit the candidates from the non-affiliated  schools to take up their exams.
  3. The CBSE syllabus is suitable for various entrance examinations like medical and engineering professional examinations whereas the ICSE syllabus is more detailed and tougher in comparison to the CBSE board.
  4. The ICSE has included the environmental education as a mandatory subject whereas CBSE does not ask for the same.

The best thing about both the boards is that they are striving hard to create better learning environments.
